Hector Jimenez

How Acquired: Selected by the Galaxy in the second round (34th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.

Looking to play a larger role with the club in his second year on the roster, Jimenez adds depth on the wings and can trouble opposing defenses with his pace and crossing ability. At his best when going one-on-one with an opposing fullback, Jimenez does not need much space in order to whip a cross into the box or push the ball past his man and get into the box.

MLS Highlights

2011: Made two appearances in the regular season, making his MLS debut as a second half substitute in the 2-0 loss at New York on 10/4. He made his first start of the season on 10/24, playing the full 90 minutes in the regular season finale at Houston. The Galaxy leader with three Reserve League goals in nine games, Jimenez also made one appearance in the CONCACAF Champions League, coming on in the second half against Morelia on 9/28, helping LA grab a 2-1 win. He made his first team debut in the U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal at Seattle on 7/13, coming on for Landon Donovan. He played in both of the Galaxy’s games at the Herbalife World Football Challenge, coming on at halftime against Real Madrid and starting the game against Manchester City.

College Highlights

Was a three-time All-Pac-10 selection during his five years at Cal – Berkeley, scoring five times and adding 28 assists in 75 games for the Bears. He had five goals and 22 assists after being forced to miss the 2007 season with an injury, earning All-Pac-10 honors in each of those years. He led his team to the NCAA Tournament four times in his five years on campus, including a quarterfinal berth as a senior in 2010, matching the school’s best-ever finish in the Tournament. The Bears also won the Pac-10 that season, going 8-1-1 in the conference. His 28 career assists were the second most in school history when he left Berkeley while his nine assists as a junior were the most in the conference.
