CARSON, Calif. – Giovani dos Santos has a message for all the detractors of his move to Major League Soccer.
“Simply…they should watch more soccer.”
The 26-year-old Mexican international hit back at those questioning his move to the Galaxy during his introductory press conference on Tuesday. When asked about moving from Europe to MLS, Dos Santos stated that he has complete confidence in the league’s ability to grow into one of the best in the world.
“I don’t think they know MLS very well. We must remove the label of it being a small league. I honestly have been here two days training with my teammates and they have exquisite quality that any team could have in Europe,” Dos Santos said. “The truth is I think that this league in a few years will be one of the most important in the world. For those who criticize me, I just bless them and hope they are happy.”
One of the most common critiques of the new Galaxy forward centered on a perceived inability to maintain his form for El Tri but Dos Santos says he’ll be ready when Mexico come calling.
“No, why? I’m playing soccer. I’m not changing sports,” said Dos Santos. “If I’m in good form and doing well then of course I will continue being called up. I don’t see why I wouldn’t continue being selected to the national team maintaining good form here.”
