CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy striker Gyasi Zardes has been the subject of a firestorm of rumors and reports linking him to Europe in recent weeks, and on Friday, the forward admitted that he’s flattered by all interest—but is not about to confirm any of the chatter.
In recent weeks, the 23-year-old striker who has tallied five goals in 21 appearances this season has been linked to a variety of clubs in Europe including English second division side Reading and Belgian club Genk. Just a day after Galaxy head coach and general manager Bruce Arena poured cold water on the rumors, Zardes spoke about them for the first time.
“Right now I'm a Galaxy player, and I'm not going to comment on that stuff,” Zardes said to MLSsoccer.com on Friday.
When asked if he expects to remain with the club until the end of the season, Zardes said, “I don’t know what tomorrow holds” and that he’s always lived “day by day” but was admittedly pleased by the interest.
“It's wonderful to know that people see my talent and see my growth as a player,” Zardes said. “And I just hope I keep producing and keep getting better each and every single day. I want to work extremely hard to be one of the best players, be a legend like some of these guys that play for various clubs. It's great to hear positive things about my game play.”
