CARSON, Calif.(Saturday, Aug. 23, 2015) – LA Galaxy II (13-8-3, 42 points) earned a 1-0 victory at StubHub Center over Seattle Sounders FC 2 Sunday afternoon to move into first place in Western Conference standings. Forward Jack McBean provided the game-winning goal in the first half to give Los Dos all three points.
Meeting for the second time this season, LA Galaxy II came into the match looking to even up the series as they fell in 1-0 in Seattle earlier this summer. Los Dos kept consistent pressure on Seattle’s backline to start the match, with 10 shots total and five shots on target coming in the first half of play.
In the 44th minute, forward Jose Villarreal, on loan from the LA Galaxy, crossed a ball from the top right corner of the 18 yard box to find Jack McBean, who headed it on frame from the top of the six-yard box to record his sixth goal of the season. Both Villarreal and McBean are products of the LA Galaxy Academy.
With the score 1-0 to Los Dos in the second half, Spanish forward Ignacio Maganto was shoved off the ball by Seattle Sounders FC 2 defender Giuliano Frano in the 62nd minute. Picking up the loose ball from the play, Alejandro Covarrubias continued the attack before Frano tackled the midfielder and earned a red card, giving Galaxy II a man advantage over the visitors.
LA Galaxy II maintained control over a 10-man Seattle side throughout the remainder of the second half as Los Dos finished the match with three points on the afternoon.
The top team in the Western Conference is led in goals by forward Ariel Lassiter while Raul Mendiola continues to lead assists with eight on the season in 15 appearances. With just four games remaining in the USL Regular Season, Los Dos will now travel for an away match against Arizona United SC on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
