TIJUANA, B.C. -- Omar Gonzalez started and tallied an assist as Pachuca earned a 1-1 draw with Club Tijuana in the former LA Galaxy player's first match for the Liga MX club.
Ex-Galaxy midfielder Juninho did not make game day roster on Friday due to injury.
Carlos Guzman opened the scoring in the 20th minute to give Xolos an early lead in new manager Miguel Herrera's first game in charge of the Xoloitzcuintles. Pachuca equalized just before the half, however, when Gonzalez nodded a corner toward a waiting Franco Jara for the equalizer.
In his Liga MX debut, Gonzalez put forth a strong effort, clearing a ball off the line in the first help and helping the Tuzos keep the score level after Pachuca went down to 10 men in the 85th minute.
Gonzalez and Pachuca return to action on Jan. 16 when they host Querétaro. Meanwhile, Juninho will look to make his Xolos debut when Club Tijuana head on the road to face Dorados de Sinaloa next Saturday.
