CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016) – The LA Galaxy selected defender Josh Turnley from Georgetown University in the Third Round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft Tuesday afternoon (42nd overall). The LA Galaxy passed on their remaining SuperDraft selections (53rd overall, Third Round; 73rd overall, Fourth Round).
Turnley, a starter in three of his four years at Georgetown, helped the team earn nine shutouts in 18 games during his senior season en route to a 16-2-3 overall record. That year, the Beaver, Pa. native was named a Second Team All-Big East Conference selection. During his time as a Hoya, Turnley also earned Big East Conference All-Academic Team (2013, 2014) and Georgetown’s Most Improved Player (2013) honors. In his career at Georgetown, Turley started 61 total matches and added six assists.
The defender attended Beaver Area High School in Beaver, Pennsylvania, where he set school records for career goals (101) and goals in a single-season (43). In four years at high school, he was named an All-American, two-time All-State honoree and two-time All-Region selection. Additionally, Turnley earned honors as the Pennsylvania State Coaches Association Player of the Year.
