TORONTO – Just not good enough.
That was the message from the LA Galaxy rocker room after the team slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Toronto FC on Saturday at a packed BMO Field.
The Galaxy were held scoreless tor a second consecutive league match, while the team’s typically solid defense committed a costly error that cost the team three points.
LA might have been missing a lot of their offensive firepower for the match, but they offered no excuses for their performance on Saturday.
“It was just not good enough. At halftime, we knew that one play was going to be the difference. We didn’t make it, and they did,” midfielder Mike Magee said. “We all got to look at each other in the mirror.”
Despite shutting down reigning league Most Valuable Player Sebastian Giovinco, for the third time this season, a late defensive error cost the team dearly.
In fact, Drew Moor’s late winner was the ninth allowed by the Galaxy in the final 30 minutes of games this season.
With the Galaxy’s defensive issues costing the team yet another road point, the team’s most tenured player believes that the club needs to improve their focus late in matches.
“We’ve got to do better at the end of games. Once you get to that mark, that 70-minute mark, you’re thinking we got to get out of here with at least a point,” defender A.J. DeLaGarza said. “I thought we played well enough to get three, we had chances to get three, and we limited them the entire night except that one chance they had on goal.”
The Galaxy face a quick turnaround with a match against the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday at StubHub Center before traveling to San Jose to take on the Earthquakes next Saturday. When they face the face the top team in Western Conference, DeLaGarza knows that the Galaxy will need to correct the mistakes of Saturday.
“We haven’t won a game in quite some time," DeLaGarza said. "So that is going to be a good test for this group on Wednesday against the best team in the league.”
