CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy will not have the services of goalkeeper Brian Rowe for their match against New York City FC on Saturday.
Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena ruled Rowe out of contention on Wednesday; one day ahead of the team’s seven-day road trip that includes matches against NYCFC and the Chicago Fire. Rowe suffered a head injury in the latter stages of the Galaxy's 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids last weekend, which forced him to get several staples in his head.
Although Rowe will be unable to play, Arena refused to declare either of his two backup goalkeepers, Dan Kennedy or Clement Diop as the starter.
“He’s going to be out for the first game, and we’ll see after that,” Arena told reporters. “We haven’t decided anything. We’ll get that done on Friday.”
Kennedy has made five appearances across all competitions for the Galaxy this season, but lost his starting position to Brian Rowe after suffering a groin injury in March. Meanwhile, Diop played in a pair of U.S. Open Cup games for the first team, while also playing in 15 games for Galaxy II.
“Kennedy has a lot of experience in this league and Diop is doing well for us with Galaxy II,” Arena said. “Both goalkeepers are ready.”
