CARSON, Calif. – Steven Gerrard will miss two weeks according to head coach Bruce Arena.

The Galaxy boss confirmed that the midfielder will be out “a couple of weeks” after suffering a hamstring strain during the team’s scoreless draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC last Saturday. The 36-year-old midfielder has made 19 appearances for the Galaxy this season, scoring three goals and adding 11 assists.

Gerrard’s injury is the latest in a long line of absences for the Galaxy that includes Robbie Keane (international duty), Jelle Van Damme (MCL sprain), Gyasi Zardes (broken fifth metatarsal), and possibly, Nigel de Jong. Arena admits that he’ll miss the Englishman, but believes that his team has the depth to cope with Gerrard’s absence.

“Sh** happens. That’s all part of it. It’s been an awkward year with all of this stuff. We haven’t been able to wrestle to a point where we’ve got the whole team on the field,” Arena told reporters. “We just haven’t been able to do it for a variety of reasons. That’s why we build a roster. We build a roster to deal with adversity and injuries. That’s what we’re doing.”
