The LA Galaxy dropped their first match of the postseason, falling 1-0 to the San Jose Earthquakes in the California Clásico Cup in Las Vegas.
Olmes Garcia scored the lone goal of the evening for the Quakes in the 89th minute after a cross deflected onto the path of the forward for the easy finish from close range. New midfielder Joao Pedro made his debut for the Galaxy in the second half.
Los Angeles dominated wide stretches of the match, but were repeatedly turned away by San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham. The Galaxy’s finest chance came in the 37th minute when Giovani dos Santos found Ema Boateng along the right side of the flank. The Galaxy’s speedy Ghanaian launched a shot that deflected off a Quakes defender and into the chest of Bingham.
The Galaxy will play their third preseason game next Saturday when they take on Armenian club Alashkert FC in a closed-door scrimmage.
