Diedie Traore makes LA Galaxy II history as the first player signed through Open Tryout process: "He's a super talent"

Diedie Traore

LA Galaxy II made history on Wednesday.

Los Dos announced the signing of Diedie Traore, the first Galaxy II player to be signed through the club's Open Tryout process.  The 19-year-old native of Paris joins the club after a successful stint with the Galaxy U-19 team which advanced to the USSDA championship match.

An attack-minded outside back, Traore first caught the eye of Galaxy scouts during a stellar showing at Los Dos’ open tryouts at StubHub Center in January. Despite traveling nearly 6,000 miles to participate in the trials, he shined.

“There were a lot of players, so it was a very hard experience,” he said earlier this year. “In a short amount of time, I had to give my best soccer while competing with many good players. Once I overcame the rush of the process, I was able to just take pleasure and enjoy my football.”

As he transitions to the next level, the Galaxy hope that big things are in store for the defender.

“Right away when we saw him with our Academy, he opened all our eyes from [Galaxy II head coach Mike Munoz] to myself to [technical director Jovan Kirovski],’ Academy head coach Brian Kleiban told LAGalaxy.com. “He’s super gifted in terms of technique, athleticism, and competitiveness. He’s a super talent that will translate nicely and fit in within our club.”
