The Hero of the Match presented by Pirnia Law United States Marine Corps Captain Syleida Ellis was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated from Nicholls State University receiving a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies, with minors in Social Sciences, Sociology and Humanities. Ellis was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps in 2017.
Upon graduation from Ground Supply Officer School, Captain Ellis executed orders to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1 located on Camp Foster, Okinawa Japan. She served as the Supply Officer as well as the Suicide Prevention Program Officer.
In June 2019, Captain Ellis reported to Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 38 where she is currently serving as the Supply Officer. After successfully completing the deactivation of Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron she reported to 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment in December 2021. She is currently serving as the Battalion Assistant Inspector Instructor and Supply Officer for 2/23.
Captain Ellis’s awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation.
