Following the results of the MLS All-Star Captain Vote, LA Galaxy forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernández has been elected captain of the MLS All-Star team. This marks Chicharito's second consecutive MLS All-Star appearance and his first as captain of the squad.
In 18 games played (17 starts) in league play this season, Chicharito ranks first on the Galaxy with seven goals scored in 1,480 minutes played. Across three seasons with the Galaxy, Chicharito has tallied 26 goals and three assists in 51 regular-season appearances (44 starts). Internationally, Hernandez is Mexico’s all-time leading goal scorer (52) in 109 games played (83 starts). Chicharito was selected by Minnesota United FC head coach Adrian Heath for the MLS All-Star roster.
Chicharito will captain the MLS All-Stars when they take on the best of LIGA MX on August 10 at 5:30 p.m. PT at Allianz Field in Minnesota. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN and Univision.
