CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, April 13, 2014) – The LA Galaxy Academy Under-18’s drew with RSC Anderlecht’s Under-19 side 1-1 Sunday morning at the Richland College campus in Dallas, Texas as part of the Gordon Jago Super Group in the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup.
After the game was delayed 45 minutes due to lightning, LA Galaxy Homegrown Player Jamieson IV put the Galaxy on the board first, finishing off a Jack McBean assist in the 25th minute. Ten minutes later, Jamieson IV, who was a handful all night, was taken down in the Anderlecht box and the referee pointed to the spot. McBean stepped up to take the penalty, but his shot hit the post, leaving the Galaxy with just a one-goal lead headed into halftime.
The lead would not last long as Anderlecht found their equalizer five minutes after the break. As the second half wore on, McBean, Jamieson, Jaime Villarreal and Ryo Fujii continued to create dangerous opportunities on goal but were unable to score and the match finished 1-1. LA Galaxy II defender Oscar Sorto also had a solid performance at full back in the match.
"I thought today that we were able to deal with not only difficult field conditions but a very complicated opponent,” LA Galaxy Academy U-18 Head Coach Ante Razov said. “We executed our game plan and created several opportunities on the counter scoring a fantastic goal. A couple of missed chances kept us from taking all three points. The effort and determination was fantastic. We have everything left to play for."
