CARSON, Calif. (Friday, November 18, 2011) – The LA Galaxy and Time Warner Cable Sports announced today that Time Warner Cable Sports’ new Los Angeles-based English and Spanish language Regional Sports Networks will, upon their launch in 2012, become the television home for all locally available LA Galaxy home and away games. In addition to the club’s MLS games, the new networks will also have the opportunity to televise the club’s friendlies and other non-league matches, with all games being shown in HD. No other terms were announced.
Time Warner Cable Sports plans to bring fans the most compelling Galaxy content using the latest technology and new state-of-the-art facilities. The company plans to seek agreements with all satellite, cable and telco distributors in the Galaxy territory to carry the new Regional Sports Networks.
“We’re very excited about our new relationship with AEG, and we’re thrilled to add the Galaxy as another foundational programming partner across both of our new Regional Sports Networks,” said David Rone, Time Warner Cable Sports President. “Soccer really resonates with this marketplace, and the Galaxy is a premier brand and a championship-caliber team. We look forward to growing interest in the Galaxy by offering fans an enhanced experience, in both English and Spanish.
The networks will include a number of elements custom-designed for Galaxy fans, including:
- Specific English and Spanish language destinations where Galaxy fans can find all locally televised home and away games and a variety of new and original Galaxy content featuring behind-the-scenes, personality and classic programming.
- All Galaxy games will be produced in high definition, with state-of-the-art technology in English and Spanish. The Spanish language channel will be a stand-alone Regional Sports Network with its own dedicated production of game telecasts and other unique content tailored to Spanish-speaking Galaxy fans.
- All games will feature pre- and post-game shows produced separately in both English and Spanish.
- Both RSNs will also feature additional Galaxy-related programming throughout the season.
“Today’s deal is groundbreaking, not only for our brand, but for our region, our sport and our industry and never would have happened without the faith, belief and wisdom that our partners at Time Warner Cable share with us,” said Timothy J. Leiweke, President & CEO, AEG. “Time Warner Cable’s commitment to launching the Spanish language channel, I believe, was the most important factor that got this deal done. It will give us a tremendous opportunity to grow our brand while connecting with our fans in a way we’ve never before done. Combine this with the additional programming, such as pre- and post-game shows, weekly magazine shows and other on-air elements and this becomes the best deal we could have ever imagined, not only for us, but most importantly, our fans.”
