LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016) – The LA Galaxy announced today the winners of the club’s 2016 awards. Forward Giovani dos Santos won 2016 LA Galaxy Player of the Year, presented by Herbalife Nutrition, in addition to earning Golden Boot honors. Defender Jelle Van Damme won LA Galaxy Defender of the Year and Gyasi Zardes was named LA Galaxy Humanitarian of the Year. LA Galaxy II forward Jack McBean won LA Galaxy II Player of the Year and Golden Boot honors while goalkeeper Clement Diop won LA Galaxy II Defender of the Year and Lee Nishanian was named LA Galaxy II Humanitarian of the Year. Ethan Zubak was named the 2016 LA Galaxy Academy Player of the year.

LA Galaxy Player of the Year, presented by Herbalife Nutrition: Giovani dos Santos
In his second season with the Galaxy, forward Giovani dos Santos tallied 14 goals and 12 assists this season in 28 appearances, with 27 starts, including two game-winning goals and two game-winning assists. Dos Santos led a Galaxy offense that scored 54 goals, the most in the MLS Western Conference and the third-most in MLS overall. The Mexican International’s 14 goals and 12 assists made him just one of two players in MLS to tally double-digit goals and assists in 2016, joining last year’s MLS MVP Sebastian Giovinco of Toronto FC.
LA Galaxy Defender of the Year: Jelle Van Damme
Van Damme joined the Galaxy this offseason from Belgian side Standard Liege and went on to make 28 appearances for LA this season, all starts. Van Damme also led a Galaxy defense that allowed just 39 goals on the season, tied for third-fewest in Major League Soccer, which helped give LA a +15 goal differential, second-best in Major League Soccer.
LA Galaxy Humanitarian of the Year: Gyasi Zardes
Gyasi Zardes spent countless hours giving back to the local community and supporting the LA Galaxy Foundation this season. As part of Foundation Fridays with the LA Galaxy Foundation, Zardes helped unveil dedicated soccer fields at Hawthorne Memorial Park, just blocks away from where the Galaxy striker grew up. The Hawthorne native has continued to visit the dedicated soccer fields regularly to support multiple soccer clinics. Additionally, Zardes partnered with the LA Galaxy and Herbalife to launch “Scoring for Scholarships” to benefit college-bound students of South Los Angeles through A Place Called Home.
Golden Boot: Giovani dos Santos
The 2016 LA Galaxy Golden Boot winner is Giovani dos Santos. Dos Santos led the LA Galaxy with 14 goals scored during the MLS Regular Season. Forward Robbie Keane finished in second with 10 goals on the year.

LA Galaxy II Player of the Year: Jack McBean
Forward Jack McBean earns LA Galaxy II Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after putting in another impression season with Los Dos that saw him tally 15 goals and two assists in just 17 appearances. Despite going on loan during the season, McBean still finished second in the USL Golden Boot race with his 15 goals.
LA Galaxy II Defender of the Year: Clement Diop
Clement Diop appeared in 22 games during the USL Regular Season, making 62 saves with a 70% save percentage along with six shutouts. In net, Diop led Los Dos to a 10-4-8 record in USL while helping the club earn its third-straight USL Cup Playoff berth.
LA Galaxy II Humanitarian of the Year: Lee Nishanian
Lee Nishanian has volunteered in numerous initiatives this season to give back to the local community in Los Angeles. The Los Dos defender has spent time visiting patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, supported the Galaxy’s partnership with St. Baldrick’s by shaving his head and encouraging fans to support the fight against children’s pediatric cancer and spent time volunteering at spcaLA.
Golden Boot: Jack McBean
McBean wins the 2016 LA Galaxy II boot with his 15 goals during the regular season. McBean’s 15 goals finished second in USL despite only playing 17 games.
LA GALAXY ACADEMY
Player of the Year: Ethan Zubak
Zubak, 18, was a part of the LA Galaxy’s Blended Learning Program first-ever graduating class this year, earning honors as valedictorian. After leading the LA Galaxy Academy’s Under-17/18 team with 13 goals in 21 appearances during the 2015-2016 season, Zubak signed his first professional contract with LA Galaxy II, where he went on to score twice and add an assist in 22 appearances on the season.
