CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, July 18, 2019) – The LA Galaxy Foundation and Herbalife Nutrition have teamed up to make an impact in the local community by expanding the Garden School Foundation’s (GSF) Seed to Table School Program to Annalee Elementary School in Carson, joining Leapwood Ave. Elementary as the second local Carson school to work with the GSF through the LA Galaxy’s partnership. On Friday, July 19, during the LA Galaxy’s match at Dignity Health Sports Park vs. LAFC (7 p.m. PT; ESPN), Herbalife Nutrition will present the Garden School Foundation with a check in support of their efforts.
"We are proud to work with the LA Galaxy in support of the Garden School Foundation," said Michael Johnson, Chairman and CEO, Herbalife Nutrition. "Expanding the foundation’s education program will help set good nutrition habits at an early age and put the children they serve on a path to leading healthy, active lives."
The Garden School Foundation, a nonprofit partner of the LA Galaxy, provides in-depth garden-based education to youth at Title I schools in Los Angeles, strengthening connections between food justice, environmental awareness, and community health. In addition to Leapwood Ave. Elementary School, the program will now help to serve the elementary school students at Annalee Elementary School by teaching life skills in a fun, engaging, and educational manner. The LA Galaxy will also open their doors to students at Annalee Elementary School by offering tours of the stadium’s on-side garden and chicken coop, in addition to providing other resources throughout the year. The Seed to Table School Program is a Garden School Foundation initiative to help students understand where their food comes from, how to grow and prepare it and the connection between healthy eating and a healthy environment.
The LA Galaxy Foundation began their partnership with the Garden School Foundation last year, investing in Leapwood Ave. Elementary alongside the Garden School Foundation through beautification projects and educational programming.
In addition to their support of the Garden School Foundation, Herbalife Nutrition has also contributed generously by giving $150,000 to help Galaxy build the David Beckham Field at The Salvation Army L.A. Red Shield Youth & Community Center earlier this year, and will contribute an additional $100,000 to Children’s Institute Inc.
