The LA Galaxy Foundation has formed a new partnership with Playworks to support programming in Southern California schools during the 2017-18 school year, the club announced last month. As part of the partnership, the LA Galaxy will donate adidas LA Galaxy jerseys to youth in the Playworks soccer program.
Playworks, a nonprofit promoting the power of play for children before, during and after school, serves more than 40,000 children in 64 schools across Southern California. They operate in low-income schools and brings together teachers, principals, parents and kids to experience the power of non-competitive play through the sport of soccer.
Most recently, as part of the partnership, the LA Galaxy Foundation invited out Playworks to StubHub Center ahead of the LA Galaxy II season finale to host a Jersey Distribution and a soccer skills development clinic.
“We saw parents out there encouraging and cheering on their kids. Smiles and laughter were going on throughout the entire evening. Thank you to the LA Galaxy Foundation for supporting us in bringing safe and healthy play to the 200 students in our 23 schools,” said Roxana Colmenares, a Playworks Site Coordinator.
Opening ceremony kicked off with the LA Galaxy Foundation presenting exclusive LA Galaxy jerseys to the young soccer players ahead of their Playworks soccer season. The event offered a two-hour soccer clinic led by the LA Galaxy Camps & Clinics coaches alongside Playworks staff, after which they all took in the LA Galaxy II match.
