The LA Galaxy Foundation hosted Jackson Magnet STEM Dual Language Academy’s fifth grade students on Thursday, April 12 for a field trip to show students how to live more sustainable lives. Students were welcomed at StubHub Center with Galaxy t-shirts and excited LA Galaxy staff members.
The field trip started with the students taking a tour of StubHub Center’s garden and LA Galaxy’s training fields. The greenhouse, growing vegetables and chickens were among the most memorable items that the students saw when walking through the grid of planter boxes inside the stadium’s garden. On the field, the students commemorated their visit with a group photo and saw where the LA Galaxy players practice and play games.
After the stadium tour, the fifth graders were led to StubHub Center’s American Express Stadium Club for a hands-on sushi class with Rachel Black of the Garden School Foundation. Joined by LA Galaxy defender Hugo Arellano and LA Galaxy II midfielder Julian Büscher, the students cut and rolled garden vegetables into their own sushi. While crafting their lunch, Black taught the students about the health benefits of the carrots, beets, rice and seaweed included in their sushi creations.

The Protect the Pitch field trip provided students with an interactive learning opportunity focused on healthy habits and the sustainability benefits of gardening. With nutritional knowledge, a new recipe and a reusable water bottle, the students left StubHub Center more equipped to lead greener day-to-day lives.
