As part of the LA Galaxy Protect the Pitch sustainability program, over 250 LA Galaxy fans, supporters and Herbalife24 Triathlon L.A. participants traveled to Venice Beach to partake in a beach cleanup with Surfrider Foundation on Saturday, June 22. Founded in 1984, Surfrider Foundation is a global nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect and enjoy the world’s oceans and beaches. LA Galaxy volunteers spent a beautiful sunny day on the beach collecting over 157 pounds of trash, 32.5 pounds of recycling and more than 4,000 cigarette buds.
After volunteering, Arbor Venice hosted volunteers for a post-cleanup social hour featuring cold beverages by Three Weavers and raffle prizes by Arbor Collective.
In 2016, the LA Galaxy and Dignity Health Sports Park started Protect the Pitch. The initiative focuses on reducing the environmental impact of LA Galaxy games and practices at Dignity Health Sports Park, supporting environmental projects in the community, and inspiring fans to help create healthier, more sustainable communities.
