Carson, Calif. (Sunday, Aug. 24 2014) – LA Galaxy II (13-8-4, 44 points) earned a 3-3 draw with Wilmington Hammerheads FC Sunday at StubHub Center’s Track & Field Stadium, as two goals from Chandler Hoffman and a stoppage-time goal from Rafael Garcia gave the hosts a point on the afternoon.
Los Dos struck first when Chandler Hoffman tallied in the 14th minute. LA Galaxy Homegrown Player Jose Villarreal played a ball behind the Hammerhead’s defense to Hoffman, who had just the goalkeeper to beat. Hoffman calmly slotted the ball into the net with his left to give Galaxy II the lead.
Galaxy II added to their lead shortly after the half on a penalty kick goal in the 53rd minute. Jose Villarreal was taken down in the box by a Wilmington defender to earn the penalty and Hoffman stepped up to the spot and buried it in the left side of the net to give Los Dos the 2-0 lead.
The Hammerheads brought the score within one in the 77th minute, as Sunny Jane curled in a shot from inside the goalkeeper’s box to make it 2-1. Less than 10 minutes later, Jane added a second to level the score at 2-2.
Wilmington then took a 3-2 lead in the 86th minute, as Marc-Anthony Kaye put the visitors ahead, but Los Dos responded with a dramatic equalizer from Galaxy II captain Rafael Garcia in stoppage time. From just outside the 18, Garcia curled in a free quick to the upper left side of the net to earn the 3-3 draw.
Newly signed players Jason Bli and Kainoa Bailey made their Galaxy II debuts, as Bli started at left back and Bailey entered the match in the second half.
Curt Onalfo’s squad will remain at StubHub Center when they face the Real Salt Lake Reserves Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 4:00 p.m. PT.
