CARSON, Calif. (Friday, March 21, 2014) –LA Galaxy II kick off their inaugural season against the OC Blues at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium on Saturday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. PT. The match will be shown live on lagalaxy.com.
Saturday’s match will mark the first time that the LA Galaxy will play the OC Blues, who recently rebranded from Los Angeles Blues to the Orange County Blues Football Club. The two clubs are scheduled to play each other three more times during the USL PRO regular season. The LA Galaxy II’s 2014 USL PRO schedule can be found here.
The LA Galaxy II are the first Major League Soccer club to own and operate a lower division professional team within the club’s player development structure. A number of LA Galaxy first team players will help make up the roster for LA Galaxy II Head Coach Curt Onalfo’s club as well as players independently signed specifically to the USL PRO club. A first of its kind program in MLS, LA Galaxy II will provide playing time and development opportunities for players within the LA Galaxy player development structure.
On Friday, it was announced that Oscar Sorto, Kyle Venter, Kofi Opare, Kenney Walker, Rafael Garcia, Bradford Jamieson IV, Jack McBean, Raul Mendiola and Charlie Rugg will feature on LA Galaxy II’s roster for this match after being loaned from the LA Galaxy first team.
One of Galaxy II’s California rivals, the OC Blues feature a number of players that were with the team during last season’s playoff run, including defender James Turner and forward Chris Cortez, who tallied nine goals for the Blues last summer. The OC Blues also added former MLS goalkeeper Patrick McLain in the offseason.
