Playing their eighth match at home during the 2022 campaign, LA Galaxy II (5-7-3, 18 points) play host to Monterey Bay F.C. (4-9-0, 13 points) at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. PT. The match against Monterey Bay will feature a live stream on ESPN+.
Wednesday’s match marks the second of three meetings between Galaxy II and Monterey Bay this season, with Galaxy II earning a 3-1 win over Monterey on April 16. Galaxy II enter Wednesday’s match following a 3-1 loss at home to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on June 11. Preston Judd, who leads the team with four goals scored this season, returns from a yellow-card suspension. LA holds a 4-1-1 record in six games played at dating back to March 23. During the 2021 USL Championship regular season, LA Galaxy II (11-15-6, 39 points) finished in sixth place in the Western Conference’s Pacific Division, missing out on qualifying for the playoffs by three points. As a team, Los Dos finished tied for sixth in the league in goals scored (55). Judd finished the season as the club’s leader in goals scored (17) in 32 games played, finishing sixth in the league in that category. Josh Drack led the team and ranked tied for fifth in the league in assists (9).
LA Galaxy II Head Coach Yoann Damet begins his first season managing the club, after being announced on Jan. 28, 2022. Damet most recently served as an assistant coach for the U-20 United States National Team that participated in the Revelations Cup in November of 2021.
Seventeen players have contracts with LA Galaxy II. Five of those players are products of the LA Galaxy Academy: Alex Alcala, Taylor Davila, Adrian Gonzalez, Eric López and Victor Valdez.
Eight new additions have been signed to LA Galaxy II ahead of the 2022 campaign: goalkeeper Eric López, defenders Dante Campbell, Liam Doyle and Chandler Vaughn, midfielders Hamza Barry, Callum Johnson and Duhaney Williams and forward Michael Salazar. Johnson and Vaughn were originally drafted by the LA Galaxy in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft. Doyle (San Antonio FC) and Salazar (Memphis 901 FC) join from the USL Championship, while Campbell joins Galaxy II from Toronto FC II. Williams was signed as a free agent on March 11 and played for Loyola Marymount University.
In 251 regular-season games played in the USL Championship dating back to their inaugural campaign in 2014, LA Galaxy II hold a record of 96-99-56. The 2022 USL Championship campaign marks LA Galaxy II’s ninth and final season in the USL Championship before moving to MLS NEXT Pro in 2023.
