CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, July 8, 2014) – LA Galaxy II midfielder Raul Mendiola and forward Charlie Rugg were named to the USL PRO Team of the Week for Week 16 of the 2014 USL PRO season.
Mendiola and Rugg earned selection for strong attacking performances against Arizona United SC in the team’s 4-2 victory at StubHub Center’s Field 3 in USL PRO Week 16 action.
Rugg bagged a pair of goals in Los Dos’ 4-2 win against Arizona United, while Mendiola provided the assist on Los Dos’ opening two goals against Arizona.
Galaxy II needed just 16 minutes to take the lead as Mendiola found Bradford Jamieson IV who buried his attempt at the edge of the box. Two minutes later, Mendiola’s service resulted in another goal, this time for Rugg who finished from close range.
Los Dos added their fourth in the closing minutes of the half when an Arizona turnover in midfield allowed Jack McBean to find Rugg for his second of the afternoon.
Additionally, Galaxy Homegrown Players Jamieson and McBean were named as honorable mentions after their strong performance in Friday’s action.
LA Galaxy II returns to action on July 19 when they travel to the nation’s heartland to take on Oklahoma City Energy FC at 5:00 p.m. PT to start a four game road swing. Los Dos return home on August 9 when they face Arizona United at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium.
