LA Galaxy II have signed defender Nick DePuy, the club announced today, pending league and federation approval.
“Nick brings a physical profile that we did not have in our defensive line, and his previous experience as a center forward gives him the ability to be a threat in the attack,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. “We are excited for Nick to contribute to LA Galaxy II in the upcoming season.”
DePuy signed with the Montreal Impact in 2017 to begin his professional career after being selected by the Impact with the 19th pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. In his first season, DePuy recorded five appearances and one start before going on loan to Ottawa Fury FC, the team’s affiliated club in the USL. With the Fury, DePuy made eight appearances, seven starts and tallied two goals.
The Irvine, Calif., native spent four years at the University of California Santa Barbara, where he accumulated 80 starts, 83 appearances, 31 goals and four assists. In 2015, he was named an NSCAA First Team All-American and a semi-finalist for the MAC-Hermann Trophy, awarded to the top male collegiate soccer player. He was named three times to First Team All-Big West Conference between 2014 and 2016.
DePuy and LA Galaxy II will kick off the 2019 USL Regular Season on Saturday, March 9 against Colorado Springs Switchbacks at Dignity Health Sports Park Track & Field Stadium. Tickets to the 2019 Home Opener are on sale now.
