LA Galaxy II have signed 23-year-old defender Omar Ontiveros, the club announced today, pending league and federation approval.
“We are pleased to welcome Omar to Los Angeles,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. “He is a versatile defender who we believe will add depth to our backline. We look forward to seeing how Omar will develop within LA Galaxy II.”
The 23-year-old joins LA Galaxy II from USL Western Conference side Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, where he was identified during an open tryout in January 2017. In his final season with the club, Ontiveros appeared in 23 games, making 22 starts, recording two goals and one assist.
Born in Pharr, Texas, Ontiveros started his soccer career with Liga MX club Santos Laguna’s U-20 squad in 2014. The following year, he travelled across the Atlantic to join Club Sportif-Grevenmacher in Luxembourg, where he spent nearly two years. Ontiveros appeared in 21 matches and scored two goals for CS-Grevenmacher.
Ontiveros and LA Galaxy II will kick off the 2019 USL Regular Season on Saturday, March 9 against Colorado Springs Switchbacks at Dignity Health Sports Park Track & Field Stadium. Tickets to the 2019 Home Opener are on sale now.
