CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, May 6, 2014) – LA Galaxy II will take on Cal FC in the second round of the 101st edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
Tickets are just $5 to see Galaxy II in their first quest for the U.S. Open Cup. Tickets for the Galaxy II – Cal FC match are available by calling 877-3GALAXY (342-5299) or visiting axs.com. The parking cost is included in fans’ ticket purchase.
The match begins Galaxy II’s first-ever participation in the U.S. Open Cup as they embark on their inaugural campaign in USL PRO. Currently, Los Dos are tied for first place in the league with Orlando City SC and led by Galaxy Homegrown Player Raul Mendiola and current league goal scoring leader Chandler Hoffman, who has four tallies on the season.
Cal FC are in the U.S. Adult Soccer Association in U.S. Soccer’s fifth tier and qualified for the 101st edition of the U.S. Open Cup by defeating Manhattan Beach club Doxa Italia 3-2 last December to qualify from USASA Region IV. The Thousand Oaks-based club is led by head coach Nick Webster and manager Michael Friedman.
Cal FC have enjoyed past success in the U.S. Open Cup as they famously reached the fourth round of the tournament during the 2012 edition by upsetting USL PRO side Wilmington Hammerheads and the Portland Timbers before falling to eventual tournament runner-up Seattle Sounders FC. Galaxy II left back Eder Arreola was among the players who suited up for the team during that fateful run which saw Cal FC become the first USASA club to defeat a team from MLS.
