Jaime Villarreal, the first Galaxy Academy player signed to LA Galaxy II, led the side in minutes played on the 2016 campaign. A bully in the midfield, Villarreal impressed himself on opponents on both sides of the ball. He recorded two goals and four assists on the season while also earning USL Team of the Week Honors after a one goal, one assist performance in a 3-2 win at San Antonio FC on July 23.
2016 was a year of maturity for Villarreal, who acknowledges how far he’s come since season’s beginning.
How would you grade your performance this season?
“I think overall I had a good season. I grew as a player from the year before and I think I impacted the game a lot more defensively and offensively. Hopefully next year I’ll keep doing that.”
What was one of your favorite moments of the season?
“One of my favorite moments was scoring against Sacramento at their house. That was a huge point, but also because my brother got the assist and that was really nice.”
What are some of your expectations for 2017?
“My expectations are to make it to the first team and hopefully to just stay with them and get playing time. And if I stay with Galaxy II it would be to score a lot of goals and get a lot of assists and win the championship.”
