LOS ANGELES (Friday, June 2, 2023) – LA Galaxy midfielder Jonathan Pérez has been called into the Mexican U-23 Men’s National Team for the 2023 Maurice Revello Tournament, which takes place from June 5-18 in France.
Pérez, 20, has tallied one assist in seven games played (7 starts) for LA Galaxy II during the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro campaign. In four appearances (4 starts) on loan with LA Galaxy II in 2022, Pérez tallied three goals and three assists in 334 minutes played in the USL Championship. Pérez has made eight career appearances (2 starts) across all competitions for the LA Galaxy. Notably, Pérez tallied a goal off the bench in the Leagues Cup Showcase in the Galaxy’s 2-0 win over Club Deportivo Guadalajara before a sell-out crowd of 71,189 fans at SoFi Stadium on Aug. 3, 2022.
Mexico is placed in Group B of the tournament alongside Australia, Togo and Qatar. Pérez and Mexico will square off against Togo on Tuesday, June 6 (8:30 a.m. PT), before facing off against Qatar on Friday, June 9 (8:30 a.m. PT) and wrapping up group play against Australia on Monday, June 12 (5:00 a.m. PT). The Maurice Revello Tournament will follow its usual format: 12 national teams will participate, divided into three groups of four teams. The top three teams in each group and the best second will qualify for the semi-finals. The other teams will play ranking games.
