The LA Galaxy (6-7-2, 20 points) will look to advance in the U.S. Open Cup this week, as they take on Portland Timbers at 8 p.m. PT on Friday, June 15 in the Round of 16. The match will be played at Providence Park in Portland and will be streamed live on LAGalaxy.com.
The Galaxy advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating FC Golden State Force 3-1 on June 7 at StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium. Ariel Lassiter tallied a brace with Bradford Jamieson IV also adding a goal.
The Galaxy have recorded a 34-17-0 all-time record in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They have entered the Open Cup every year since 1999, winning the tournament in 2001 and 2005 while reaching the Open Cup Final on two other occasions. Last year, the Galaxy advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition before falling to the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2.
Over the weekend, LA Galaxy earned a 3-0 win over Real Salt Lake with two goals from Zlatan Ibrahimović and one from Ola Kamara. David Bingham earned his fifth shutout of the season. Going into the World Cup break, the Galaxy sit 8th in the MLS Western Conference with 20 points.
LA will return to MLS Regular Season play at against San Jose Earthquakes at 7 p.m. PT on Saturday, June 30 at Stanford Stadium (UnĂMas).
