LA Galaxy II hit the road for the first time of the 2017 season when they take on San Antonio FC at 5:30 p.m. PT at Toyota Field in San Antonio. Los Dos travel after a winning start to the 2017 season on opening weekend: a 2-0 shutout victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at home.
New LA Galaxy II Head Coach Mike Muñoz led his younger side to victory in the team’s opening shutout win and will be looking for a repeat performance in Week 2. One player to watch will be last weekend’s goal scorer, Ethan Zubak, the budding 18-year-old forward rated highly by Muñoz.
Perhaps most impressive in the team’s opener was Los Dos’ chemistry in the back despite the starts of two newcomers (Tyler Turner and Jean Engola), LA Galaxy’s Hugo Arellano and a debut from LA Galaxy Academy’s Ian Lonergan. Having LA Galaxy offseason addition Jon Kempin between the posts doesn’t hurt either – a ‘keeper with both USL and MLS experience.
In their two faceoffs in 2016, LA went undefeated against San Antonio. They drew 1-1 with SAFC at StubHub Center on April 13 and in their first trip to Toyota Field, on July 23, LA left with all three points after a 3-2 win. It was one of Jaime Villarreal’s finest performances of the season; he recorded one goal and one assist in a 90-minute shift.
Saturday’s match kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT and will be streamed live on LAGalaxy.com/2.
