Match Preview: LA Galaxy II vs. El Paso Locomotive FC | October 17, 2021

With four games remaining in their 2021 USL Championship campaign, LA Galaxy II play host to El Paso Locomotive FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 5:00 p.m. PT live on ESPN+. 

This year, Los Dos are 10-12-6 (36 points), with 47 goals scored and 50 conceded for a -3 goal differential. In their most recent match, LA Galaxy II earned a 1-1 draw on the road against Sacramento Republic FC at Heart Health Park on Oct. 13. Preston Judd tallied his team-leading 13th goal of the season, while Josh Drack registered his seventh assist. With four games remaining in their 2021 USL Championship regular-season campaign, LA Galaxy II remain in fourth place in the Pacific Division, four points behind third-place Orange County SC (11-10-7, 40 points) and two points ahead of fifth-place Oakland Roots SC (9-12-7, 34 points). 

During the 2021 campaign, Judd has ranks tied for eighth in the league in goals scored (13), while Jorge Hernández ranks second on LA with 11 goals scored, including leading the league with 76 chances created. Vom Steeg leads the team and ranks tied for fourth in the league with seven shutouts and 60 saves in 20 games played in 2021. Drack ranks tied for seventh in the USL Championship with seven assists. Additionally, Galaxy II are unbeaten in their last four road games played (3-0-1) dating back to a 1-0 win at Oakland on Sept. 18.

Wednesday’s contest marks the first and only meeting between LA and El Paso during the 2021 campaign. The last time the two clubs squared off,

Los Dos earned a 2-0 win over Locomotive FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Oct. 19, 2019. Ethan Zubak scored the game-winning goal for LA in the win over El Paso.

In 2020, Los Dos finished the regular season 8-6-2 with 26 points (4-3-1 at home and 4-3-1 on the road), earning them second place in Group B standings and clinching a berth in the USL Championship Playoffs for the second-straight season.

Head Coach Junior Gonzalez holds a 24-24-11 record throughout his head coaching tenure with LA Galaxy II and has led the team to two-consecutive playoff appearances. In the seven years of USL Championship competition, Los Dos have qualified for playoffs five times, in addition to a USL Western Conference Championship in 2015.

LA Galaxy II compete in the USL Championship Western Conference Pacific Division for the 2021 campaign alongside the following clubs: Las Vegas Lights FC, Oakland Roots SC, Orange County SC, Phoenix Rising FC, Sacramento Republic FC, San Diego Loyal SC and Tacoma Defiance.
