This year, Los Dos are 4-7-4 with 16 points, with 24 goals scored and 27 conceded for a -3 goal differential. In their most recent match, Los Dos earned a 3-0 win over the Oakland Roots at Dignity Health Sports Park July 25. Josh Drack and Jorge Hernández each tallied a goal and an assist in the win over Oakland, while Carlos Harvey tallied his first goal for Los Dos during the 2021 campaign. Following his performance against Oakland, Drack was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 14.
This year, Preston Judd has seven goals in the USL Championship, the most of any Galaxy II player and tied for sixth in the USL Championship. Additionally, Jorge Hernández ranks second on LA with six goals scored, including leading the club and ranking tied for second in the league with 35 chances created. Goalkeeper Justin vom Steeg leads the team with three shutouts and 22 saves in nine appearances in 2021.
Sunday’s contest marks the second meeting between the two clubs during the 2021 campaign, with San Diego defeating Los Dos 2-1 at Torero Stadium on June 12. In three meetings between LA and San Diego in 2020, the series was tied 1-1-1. Loyal SC and Los Dos will play two more times this season, next squaring off on Sept. 5 in San Diego and Oct. 2 in LA.
In 2020, Los Dos finished the regular season 8-6-2 with 26 points (4-3-1 at home and 4-3-1 on the road), earning them second place in Group B standings and clinching a berth in the USL Championship Playoffs for the second-straight season.
Head Coach Junior Gonzalez holds a 18-18-9 record throughout his head coaching tenure with LA Galaxy II and has led the team to two-consecutive playoff appearances. In the seven years of USL Championship competition, Los Dos have qualified for playoffs five times, in addition to a USL Western Conference Championship in 2015.
LA Galaxy II compete in the USL Championship Western Conference Pacific Division for the 2021 campaign alongside the following clubs: Las Vegas Lights FC, Oakland Roots SC, Orange County SC, Phoenix Rising FC, Sacramento Republic FC, San Diego Loyal SC and Tacoma Defiance.
