This year, Los Dos are 5-9-4 with 19 points, with 28 goals scored and 33 conceded for a -5 goal differential. In their most recent match, Los Dos fell 2-1 on the road to Oakland Roots on Aug. 14. Galaxy II rank tied for 13th in the league in goals scored (28) and hold a 3-5-0 record on the road during the 2021 campaign.
This year, Preston Judd has eight goals in the USL Championship, the most of any Galaxy II player and tied for ninth in the USL Championship. Additionally, Jorge Hernández ranks second on LA with seven goals scored, including leading the league with 45 chances created. Goalkeeper Justin vom Steeg leads the team with three shutouts and 33 saves in 12 appearances in 2021. Josh Drack ranks tied for eighth in the USL Championship with five assists. Notably, LA Galaxy II acquired Gerson Chávez on loan from Real C.D. España on Aug. 13 for the remainder of the 2021 USL Championship regular season.
Friday’s match marks the third meeting between LA and Las Vegas in 2021, with the series tied 1-1-0. In the first meeting between the two teams this year, Los Dos earned a 5-0 shutout over Las Vegas at home on May 5. In the last meeting between Las Vegas and LA, Galaxy II fell 4-3 on June 16. The Lights and Los Dos will play once more this year, next squaring off on Oct. 8 in Las Vegas.
In 2020, Los Dos finished the regular season 8-6-2 with 26 points (4-3-1 at home and 4-3-1 on the road), earning them second place in Group B standings and clinching a berth in the USL Championship Playoffs for the second-straight season.
Head Coach Junior Gonzalez holds a 19-21-9 record throughout his head coaching tenure with LA Galaxy II and has led the team to two-consecutive playoff appearances. In the seven years of USL Championship competition, Los Dos have qualified for playoffs five times, in addition to a USL Western Conference Championship in 2015.
LA Galaxy II compete in the USL Championship Western Conference Pacific Division for the 2021 campaign alongside the following clubs: Las Vegas Lights FC, Oakland Roots SC, Orange County SC, Phoenix Rising FC, Sacramento Republic FC, San Diego Loyal SC and Tacoma Defiance.
