Match Report: LA Galaxy earn come-from-behind point against Portland Timbers

Dejan Joveljić scored in the 88' minute and the LA Galaxy came from behind to earn a point in a 1-1 draw against Portland Timbers at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday afternoon.

Victor Vázquez needed to be subbed off with injury in the 32nd minute, carving the path for Joveljić to take the field early in the match. Returning from international break, the Galaxy played with pace and pushed for a goal in the first half but ultimately the Timbers scored first with a goal by Yimmy Chara in the 38th minute.

Derrick Williams came up big on defense for the Galaxy with a goal-line clearance and a clean slide tackle in the second half to keep the match close. The offense was able to capitalize and push for an equalizer, with a cross from Julian Araujo headed in powerfully by Joveljić to tie the match. The goal was Joveljić's first of the season and made him the first LA Galaxy player to score in consecutive MLS appearances, both as a substitute, since Edson Buddle in 2009.
