Colorado Springs, COLO. (Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015) – LA Galaxy II (14-11-3, 45 points) defeated Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 1-0 on the road at Sand Creek Stadium Saturday night behind a first-half goal from forward Ariel Lassiter. Los Dos will now begin play in the USL playoffs next weekend, with the date and opponent to be finalized after the remaining USL matches this week.
Ariel Lassiter scored the game’s lone goal in the first half when his long-distance shot took a deflection and bounced over the Colorado Springs goalkeeper and into the net. It was Lassiter’s team-leading 11th goal of the season.
Lassiter was sent off just before halftime after he received a red card as Los Dos played the entire second half with just 10 men. Behind a strong defensive stand from the Galaxy II backline and a shutout from goalkeeper Clement Diop, who made several key saves on the night, Galaxy II earned three points in their final regular season game.
Saturday’s match marked the third contest of the year against Colorado Springs, with Los Dos going 2-1-0 against Switchbacks FC on the season. The win Saturday snapped a three-game losing streak for LA Galaxy II.
Curt Onalfo’s side are now tied for fourth place in the USL Western Conference ahead of the USL playoffs. They are led in goals by Ariel Lassiter with 11 on the season, with fellow forward Jack McBean adding an additional six goals and five assists this year.
