LA Galaxy II (4-3-2, 13 points) earned their second consecutive shutout with a 1-0 victory at home against Austin Bold FC (3-3-2, 11 points) in the sides’ first-ever meeting on Saturday.
LA Galaxy II came out strong against Austin Bold FC, testing goalkeeper Diego Restrepo right away in the 1st minute. Frank Lopez capitalized on an Austin Bold defensive blunder to hold one back for Ethan Zubak. Zubak fired a shot on goal which was pushed wide by Restrepo. Los Dos came knocking on the door again in the 16th minute when Brian Iloski hit a rocket at goal, but it was also saved.
The Galaxy maintained most of the possession in the first half, but were unable to break through Austin’s well-structured defense. The sides entered halftime scoreless.
The match’s lone goal came in the 56th minute. Los Dos was on the counter with Zubak leading the charge. Zubak attempted to find Augustine Williams with a low cross across the box, but found Austin’s Jermaine Taylor instead who put in the back of his own net. LA Galaxy II went up by a goal.
With three points on the horizon, LA Galaxy II transitioned from an attacking game plan to a more defensive formation. The change in strategy worked as Los Dos walked away with the victory and their third clean sheet of the season.
LA Galaxy II are back at home to host Fresno FC at Dignity Health Sports Park Track & Field Stadium on Sunday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. PT.
