LA Galaxy II (0-1-0, 0 points) fell 4-1 at home to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (1-0-0, 3 points) in their opening contest of the 2019 USL Championship season.
Los Dos fell behind early in the first half after Shane Malcolm headed the ball in from close range in the 10th minute of play. Although LA Galaxy II had a few scoring chances in the first half, they were unable to find the equalizer. The home team went into half time with a goal deficit.
The Switchbacks continued to press offensively and recorded their second goal three minutes into the second half. Malcolm rocketed a right footed shot across the box to beat out LA Galaxy II’s goalkeeper Justin Vom Steeg. Jordan Burt, the Switchbacks’ captain, added his name to the scoresheet with a header from close range in the 57th minute before Malcolm notched his hat trick with 14 minutes to go in the match.
Los Dos struggled to mount a comeback. But, in the 86th minute, LA Galaxy II captain Geoffrey Acheampong scored his team’s lone goal with help from Panamanian International Ernesto Walker. Walker showed his strength beating out two defenders to find Acheampong who whipped the ball top shelf past Colorado’s Andre Rawis.
Next up, LA Galaxy II hit the road for their first away game of the season against Tacoma Defiance (1-0-0, 3 points) at 7 p.m. PT on Saturday, March 16 at Cheney Stadium.
