LA Galaxy II (10-16-7, 37 points) fell 1-2 to Sacramento Republic FC (18-7-8, 62 points) at homeSaturday night.
Los Dos fell behind early in the first half, taking on 2-0 deficit during a span of eight minutes. On the first, Keven Aleman was able to beat out a few Los Dos defenders to strike a curling shot from the center of the box in to the top left corner. In the 21st minute, Keven Aleman was able to find the back of Eric Lopez’s net for a second time.
But LA Galaxy II responded only three minutes later, with the help from Los Dos’ leading goal-scorer, Frank Lopez. Nate Shultz gifted Frank Lopez with a perfectly looping ball into the box, which he expertly headed past Sacramento Republic’s keeper. With this goal, LA Galaxy II cut Sacramento’s lead in half.
Los Dos entered the second half trailing by one, and struggled to convert opportunities against Sacramento in the remaining 45. Although the Galaxy were unable to find a goal, they earned a second half shut out thanks to Eric Lopez. In the 67th minute, a penalty kick was awarded to Sacramento Republic after Andre Zanga fouled Jure Matjasic in the box. Sacramento’s Jeremy Hall shot the penalty low and hard to the right corner, but Eric Lopez read the penalty well and came up with the save.
In the 74th minute, Sacramento went down to 10 men after Cole Seiler received his second yellow of the evening for a bad foul. Emmanuel Appiah took the free kick for the Galaxy, which resulted in one of their best opportunities of the second half. Appiah hammered his shot around Sacramento’s wall on goal, but Josh Cohen was able to make the diving save.
