In another crucial match, LA Galaxy II (10-8-9, 39 points) defeated Real Monarchs SLC (10-9-7, 37 points) 3-1 on Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park Track & Field Stadium for a second consecutive home win.
The first 30 minutes of the match couldn’t have been better for LA Galaxy II. Los Dos controlled the tempo of the game from the first whistle, and it didn’t take them long to find the back of Real Monarchs’ net.
In the 10th minute, Kai Koreniuk blew by his defender to put in a cross that deflected kindly to the feet of Jose Hernandez, who slotted home the opener. The second goal came just five minutes later, when a Geoffrey Acheampong corner found the head of Tomas Hilliard-Arce at the near post, who put the ball away at the far post.
LA Galaxy II started off the second half just as strong, adding another goal to their lead in the 68th minute. Less than 60 seconds after checking in, Ivan Gutierrez took it all the way to the house after a backheel assist from Augustine Williams that put Gutierrez in on goal.
Real Monarchs were able to get one goal late, but it wasn’t enough, as LA Galaxy II made it three wins in their last four outings.
