New head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto ready to build a new "future" for the LA Galaxy

LOS ANGELES – Guillermo Barros Schelotto arrives in Los Angeles determined to build a new future for the LA Galaxy.

The Galaxy announced the hiring of Schelotto as the 10th head coach in the club’s history on Wednesday.  Schelotto joins the Galaxy after spending the last three years as the manager of legendary Argentine side Boca Juniors, where he led the club to two league titles.

“I think the Galaxy was very important to me because I know the league and I know how important the Galaxy is in MLS,” he told LAGalaxy.com. “It’s a big opportunity for me. This is a really good decision.”

The 45-year-old heads to Dignity Health Sports Park with plenty of knowledge of Major League Soccer, having spent four seasons with Columbus Crew SC. Schelotto made more than 100 appearances for the Crew while winning the 2008 Landon Donovan MLS MVP award and leading the club to the MLS Cup in the same season.

As he prepares for his next challenge, Schelotto admits that this experience made the decision an easy one.

“I decide [to join] Galaxy because I know the league, I know what we are talking about. I think that the next step after Boca was outside the country and the Galaxy gave me the opportunity,” he said. “I’ve been talking with Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese and I think that we are aligned on the Galaxy’s future. I took this position because I am thinking about the future of not just me, but the Galaxy. I think it will be very important and I want to be a part.”
