LA GALAXY II HEAD COACH MIKE MUÑOZ
On how the team came out in the match:
“We talked about coming into this week with a little bit of redemption based off what happened the first time we played these guys and we wanted to see a response. We went in with a plan at SLC that we felt we didn’t execute. We actually came in with the same plan because we thought it was the right way to beat them. We just had to do it better and clearly we did a lot better in terms of executing that game plan. I’m really proud of the guys because to beat a team like this with that type of score line is something to be proud of.”
On Efrain Alvarez’s second hat trick of the season:
“We started another 16-year-old, Adam Saldaña tonight, U.S. U-17 National player, so we are confident in our youth. Efra has proven before his qualities. We felt we created the right set up for him to be successful on both sides of the ball and he just has to take advantage of that. Clearly he did tonight.”
On carrying the momentum into next week’s game in Seattle:
“We play Seattle, so they have a similar philosophy about the second team. Anytime you play an MLS rival you want to beat them. We beat them the first time and we’ll look to do the same. I’m going to enjoy this one for now.”
On what’s left to earn this season:
“The guys are fighting to be in the Starting XI, fighting to be in the 18, fighting to get contracts for next year, they’re fighting to get onto the first team. For us, it’s a bigger picture and we just want to continue to make sure the guys perform at a high level even this late in the season.”
