Playing their second match in the 2023 Coachella Valley Invitational, the LA Galaxy fell 4-1 to the Portland Timbers at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif., on Sunday afternoon.
In five preseason matches played in 2023, the LA Galaxy hold a 2-2-1 record. On Jan. 24, the Galaxy earned a 3-2 win over D.C. United behind goals from Riqui Puig, Efraín Álvarez and a stoppage-time game-winning goal by Preston Judd. On Jan. 28, the LA Galaxy and Charlotte FC played to a 1-1 draw, with Riqui Puig tallying a penalty-kick goal in the draw against Charlotte.
LA fell 2-1 to New York City FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Feb. 4. In their first match of the Coachella Valley Invitational, Álvarez tallied two goals, while Dejan Joveljić and Mark Delgado scored their first goals of the preseason in a 4-1 win over St. Louis CITY SC on Feb. 8.
Álvarez leads the Galaxy with three goals scored during the 2023 preseason, while Memo Rodríguez leads LA with two assists during the preseason.
The Galaxy close out their time at the Coachella Valley Invitational against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, Feb. 15 (10:30 a.m. PT), before closing out the 2023 preseason against Toronto FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday, Feb. 18 (6:30 p.m. PT).
