Just like the first team, Los Dos have had more success on the road this year than at home. The squad returns to StubHub Center a week after collecting a 1-0 win against Rio Grande Valley FC Toros in Edinburg, Texas last Saturday, bringing LA to a 2-1-1 record in their last four road games.
But on Sunday, Galaxy II will be looking for their first home win since a 2-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at the StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium on March 25. They’re just 1-4-1 on the season in front of their home fans in 2017 – a year earlier, they lost only two matches in Los Angeles.
Leading the way for Los Dos will be forward Justin Dhillon, a Galaxy Academy product signed in the offseason after four years at Cal Poly. Dhillon has recorded three goals and one assist in his last six appearances for Galaxy II and has a string of four consecutive starts as a result of his performances.
As for the opponent, Los Dos have never beaten Sacramento at StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium. Galaxy II are just 1-8-2 against Republic FC all-time, racking up a 0-1-3 record against them in 2016. They drew 1-1 in their last meeting at StubHub Center, with a first-half goal from Ariel Lassiter opening the scoring in that contest.
With injuries to the first team, LA Galaxy II Head Mike Muñoz has relied on his youth even more than he did in the first part of the season, submitting lineups in three consecutive games without any MLS-signed players. LA Galaxy Academy’s Jonah Estrada scored the game-winner in the team’s last outing, and midfielder Jorge Hernandez became the first Academy player to five starts this season. Fans should expect much of the same for Sunday’s contest.
As part of the match, LA Galaxy II with host its 1st Annual Soccer For All Night, celebrating the special needs community of Los Angeles. To learn more, click here.
