This weekend, LA Galaxy II (3-11-2, 11 points) get their first meeting of the season with Western Conference side Portland Timbers II (1-13-2, 5 points.) The two sides will kick off at 2:00 p.m. PT on Sunday, July 9 at Providence Park in Portland (streamed live on LAGalaxy.com/2).
LA travels to Portland after suffering their worse loss of the season to Reno 1868 FC. Injuries to the first team have left LA Galaxy II and LA Galaxy Academy members to carry the torch of recent, as LA Galaxy II Head Coach Mike Muñoz trotted out a starting lineup with the average age of 19.45 in the team’s loss to Reno. But with the Timbers sporting a 0-7-1 record at home this season, Galaxy II are looking for a bounceback win to add a bright spot to this season.
The development continues across the board, with Head Coach Mike Muñoz highlighting Jean Engola recently. Engola has played more minutes this year than any other Galaxy II player and his improvement has been noticeable.
“He’s only 19 and he’s getting games every week against top pros and that’s only going to make him better,” Muñoz said.
The Galaxy and Timbers split the season series 1-1 last year with a total of 12 goals scored between both teams. Last time LA was in Portland, they handed Timbers 2 a 4-1 loss with three first half goals on July 16, 2016.
