ROMAIN ALESSANDRINI MAN OF THE MATCH
Romain Alessandrini continued his impressive 2017 campaign with a Man of the Match showing as the LA Galaxy shared the spoils with Seattle Sounders FC.
Alessandrini notched his team-high 10th assist in the 25th minute when he shimmied past a Sounders defender and found Gyasi Zardes with a cross for the open header to give the Galaxy their lone goal of the evening. The assist was part of a masterful showing from the Frenchman who repeatedly ran at the Sounders defense and created multiple dangerous opportunities.
Although Alessandrini shined against the Sounders, he’ll miss the Galaxy’s next match against Toronto FC due to yellow card accumulation after picking up his fifth caution of the season. The Galaxy’s 2017 season hasn’t been full of too many highlights, but Alessandrini’s consistent performances will give Sigi Schmid plenty to smile about down the stretch run.
KEMPIN SUFFERS FIRST HALF INJURY; STATUS UNCERTAIN
Jon Kempin has solidified himself as the LA Galaxy’s starting goalkeeper over the last month or so but his run in net might be over for the short term as he suffered an injury in the Galaxy’s clash with Seattle on Sunday.
Kempin appeared to knock knees in a scary collision with Sounders midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro inside the opening 25 minutes of the match. Moments later, Kempin pulled up, unable to put weight on his right knee, forcing Brian Rowe to step in between the sticks.
The Galaxy will evaluate the young goalkeeper’s status for next week’s match against Toronto FC, but given the degree of injury, he’ll likely miss the fixture as he recovers.
JONATHAN DOS SANTOS SHINES IN SEATTLE
Jonathan dos Santos showcased his range of skills with a brilliant outing in the Galaxy’s 1-1 draw in Seattle.
Dos Santos was a valuable conduit for the Galaxy attack throughout the match, effortlessly stringing together passes that helped Los Angeles cut through the Seattle midfield. Throughout his showing, Jonathan offered a stabilizing presence that allowed the Galaxy to dictate the center of the park.
The stat sheet displayed dos Santos’ impressive performance as he completed nearly 85 percent of his passes in a successful shift. His most crucial effort came in the 25th minute when he delivered a driven ball right to Romain Alessandrini who fed Gyasi Zardes for the lone goal of the evening.
