United States Marine Corps Sergeant Major, Joseph Perera is the Hero of the Match | June 19, 2024

Sergeant Major Perera was born in Los Angeles, California and joined the Marine Corps in 1998 as an infantryman, and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. Since then, he has had multiple deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Pacific with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, Australia, Okinawa, and East Timor.

Now, he is stationed in Pasadena, California with the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines as the Inspector Instructor.

Some of Perera’s awards include the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq and Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Humanitarian Medal, and the Coast Guard Sea Service Ribbon.
