For the second time in three days, the United States Under-20 side drew 1-1 before losing on penalty kicks in the Torneo de las Americas in Kennesaw, Ga.
The Americans earned a tie against Mexico on Sunday in the tournament capper. In the 70th minute, defender Gale Agbossoumonde (above) pounced on his own rebound, putting it past Mexican goalkeeper Rafael. El Tri's Taufic Guarch opened the scoring seven minutes prior.
After fulltime, the game went straight to penalty kicks. Mexico prevailed 4-2 courtesy of misses by Dillon Powers and Sebastian Lletget. Agbossoumonde and Alex Zahavi scored for Thomas Rongen's squad.
New York's Juan Agudelo and Philadelphia's Amobi Okugo played the entire match as Rongen chose not to make any substitutions. Galaxy forward Tristan Bowen did not make an appearance in this match.
Mexico were crowned Torneo champions with the result. They defeated Colombia 4-1 on penalties on Saturday in a match that finished 2-2 in regulation. Erick Vera and Rene Zamora scored for the winners, while Juan Cabezas and Miguel Julio scored for the losing side.
