CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, May 20, 2015) – LA Galaxy II fell to Ventura County Fusion at StubHub Center’s Track & Field Stadium in a second-round matchup of the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament as a first-half strike wasn’t enough to overcome two goals from the visitors.
Ventura County Fusion took the lead in the first half on a goal from Matthew LaGrassa. The midfielder collected the ball at the top of the 18 before squaring up and launching in a shot over the head of Shackelford in the 30th minute.
Los Dos responded fifteen minutes later when Lassiter played a ball over top to Adonis Amaya, who sprinted in on goal with just the goalkeeper to beat. The forward went to round the goalkeeper before being tripped up and earning a penalty. Lassiter stepped up to the spot and buried the finish to equalize the match for Galaxy II.
After creating numerous second-half chances, Galaxy II surrendered a late goal in second-half stoppage as Abu Danladi scored to give the visitors the victory. With the loss, Los Dos were eliminated from the U.S. Open Cup.
