CARSON, Calif. (Monday, Aug. 4, 2014) – LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 21 of the 2014 MLS season.
Keane was involved in all three goals during the Galaxy’s 3-1 victory over Portland Saturday at StubHub Center as he provided an assist and scored twice, including the game winner.
After Portland opened the scoring in the 14th minute, Keane helped the Galaxy level the match in first-half stoppage time with an assist on Gyasi Zardes’ goal. In the 73rd minute, he tallied the game winner when he beat his defender and headed home a cross from Landon Donovan past Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts. Just 12 minutes later, the Irish international sealed the game for the Galaxy, scoring from the penalty spot to make it 3-1.
Keane now has 12 goals and seven assists in 18 appearances this season. Since 2011, he has scored 46 goals and added 28 assists in MLS play.
The Galaxy will remain at StubHub Center when they face their California rivals, the San Jose Earthquakes, in the California Clasico this Friday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m. PT live on the NBC Sports Network.
